Spring into Healthy Habits by Practicing Self-Care for Your Mental Well-Being

Clinically Reviewed by Arpan Parikh, MD - Chief Medical Officer of SOL Mental Health

Springtime always feels like a natural reset. Longer days, more sunlight, and a fresh burst of energy that makes it a little easier to refocus on yourself. It’s the perfect time to build (or rebuild) healthy habits that support your mental health, whether that’s getting outside more, moving your body, or simply slowing down and checking in with how you’re doing. And while New Year’s resolutions might feel like a distant memory, this season is a great reminder that progress isn’t tied to January 1st. You can revisit, reset, and recommit at any point along the way, with healthy spring habits that emphasize the importance of self-care.

A Look Back at the New Year

Earlier this year, we committed to rejecting the traditions that encourage self-criticism and, instead, embracing all the things that make us who we are – while making smaller changes that result in the biggest impacts. Now that we’ve moved from winter to spring, let’s think about those goals.

Did you:

  • Start Small with your goals by taking smaller steps to achieving bigger achievements?
  • Celebrate the Wins in your life, from tiny improvements to shining successes?
  • Embrace the Imperfect by accepting there’s no such thing as perfect and acknowledging your wins?
  • Practice Self-Care by giving yourself a break and taking time to enjoy your life?
  • Accept Support from friends, family members, or healthcare professionals when you needed it?

Whether you did one or all of these, congrats! You’ve embarked upon the path to a happier, healthier 2026. Now, let’s take a look at some spring habits that can complement the work you’ve already done to better support your physical and mental health.

Spring Self-Care Habits That Transform Your Mental Health

Healthy spring habits for mental health are designed around improving your mood, reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety, and making lifestyle changes that help you live your best life. Plus, by regularly checking in on your progress from the start of the year, you’re better able to gauge the areas where you’re rocking … and those that may need a little work.

Here are key healthy spring habits for mental health:

  • Establish Routines – Longer days means an extra hour of sunlight at the end of the day. Keep your body adjusted to the change with set sleep, mealtime, and other daily schedules.
  • Enhance Your Diet – During springtime, support your mental health with a balanced diet that includes seasonal fruits and vegetables.
  • Practice Mindfulness – Bringing peace into your life is an important part of springtime self-care. Quiet the mind through mindfulness activities like journaling, painting, walking, and gardening.
  • Enjoy the Great Outdoors – Spend at least 30 minutes a day, a few times a week, in nature to boost your immune system as well as your mood.
  • Do a Digital Detox – Part of enjoying the wonders of nature means actually seeing it. Unplug from the online world and focus on the real world around you to calm your brain, promote relaxation, and find your center.
  • Organize with Spring Cleaning – Out with the old, make room for the new! Declutter your home by cleaning out closets, junk drawers, bedrooms, and office spaces, then giving each space a good clean before organizing to create an environment that calms the mind.
  • Take Time for Yourself – Don’t get lost in the hustle of everyday life. Schedule time for yourself to recharge and create balance, with activities like reading, yoga, bubble baths, and exercise.
  • Connect with Loved Ones – Making time for friends and family is vital for self-care, and your overall mental health. This spring, round up your support system and enjoy time out on the town, laughter around the living room, deep coffee shop conversations, or even simple check-in phone calls.
