As a social worker and trauma therapist, I work with adults navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, OCD, addiction, and spiritual struggles rooted in limiting beliefs and challenging situations. Together, we can work toward understanding and regulating your nervous system, making peace with your past, and developing a deeper sense of your values and where you want to go in life, while incorporating trauma therapy and mindfulness skills along the way.
Finding the right therapist means feeling safe enough to speak about issues that can otherwise leave you feeling alone and isolated, and that's what I hope to offer you. I bring acceptance and warmth into our sessions, which helps us start to let go of old defense mechanisms and open up to new ways of being and understanding ourselves. That's the work we'll do together, and I look forward to it.
Building a strong therapeutic bond is one of the most important elements of healing work, and it is something I care deeply about creating with you. I work to create a warm, nonjudgmental space where it feels safe to explore all aspects of yourself. Our sessions are trauma-informed and person-centered, and often incorporate connection and humor when it feels appropriate.
Together, we work through limiting beliefs and old wounds using Brainspotting, parts work, and emotion regulation skills. Brainspotting utilizes eye positions and body sensations to help you process material at a deeper level than talk therapy alone, while emotion regulation skills come from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), along with other Mindfulness and somatic approaches. When you understand your nervous system, and how the stories you tell yourself affect it, you can find the areas of change that move you from surviving to thriving. I also incorporate Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), along with ACT, to help you build more tolerance and ease with uncertainty if you struggle with obsessions and compulsions.
I became a therapist after seeing how powerful my own healing work has been. Recognizing what has informed our past and our sense of self, and finding healing ways to move beyond them, is such a powerful gift that we all have the ability to access. Having gone through this work myself, I can empathize with the struggles that come up for you, and I honor that everyone moves at the pace that is right for them and their nervous system. I bring warmth, curiosity, and acceptance into each session, recognizing that you are exactly where you need to be in this moment.
In my free time, I enjoy practices that help my own nervous system go from surviving to thriving, including morning meditation, qigong, and journaling. I also love seeing theatre, comedy, and expressive arts. In my past, I've done roller derby and ice hockey — not well enough to play in an actual game, but well enough not to fall over!
